Wendy has been part of Careline for many years, including six as our Chair of Trustees, and this March she’s taking one of her toughest challenges to date: hiking Mount Kilimanjaro.

Standing at nearly 6,000 metres, Kilimanjaro is a demanding, high-altitude climb that requires months of training, determination and resilience. Wendy is taking on this challenge to support Careline to raise vital funds for the service she has helped guide and support.

Careline is a small, independent charity offering free telephone befriending calls to adults across the Derbyshire Dales, Erewash and East Staffordshire. Our volunteers bring comfort, connection and companionship to people who may be feeling lonely, isolated, or simply in need of someone to talk to.

This challenge is Wendy’s way of giving back to a service she deeply believes in.

💙 It’s good to chat — and your support helps us keep these conversations going.

We held our Christmas Fair on Saturday 6th December, and what a truly fabulous day it was! It was so lovely to see so many people come along, including some of our own members, to enjoy the festive atmosphere.

There were plenty of stalls to browse, a raffle and tombola, festive treats, mince pies and refreshments, and we were even lucky enough to have Santa pop in to spread some Christmas cheer! 🎅✨

Thanks to everyone’s generosity and support, we’re absolutely delighted to say we raised around £1,160, which is an incredible achievement.

We’d also like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to the following local businesses who very kindly donated prizes for our raffle:

  • Sally Montague Salon
  • Mark’s Family Butchers
  • Market Place Fish & Chip Shop
  • Ashbourne Physio Centre
  • M&S Ashbourne
  • Sebastian’s Barbers
  • Yew Tree Records
  • David Neill Mica Home & DIY
  • Boots Ashbourne

Your support really does make such a difference, and we’re so grateful.

A special thank you as well to Chameleon Choir, who came along and filled the space with beautiful Christmas songs, helping to make the day feel even more festive 🎶✨

And finally, thank you to all of our wonderful volunteers; those who donated, helped organise, ran stalls, and supported us on the day. We truly couldn’t have done it without you.

Thank you to everyone who attended and supported us – we hope you enjoyed the day as much as we did.

We attended the Ashbourne Lantern Spectacular in September. Apart from the torrential rain and cold, we enjoyed the lantern parade. Thank you to everyone who stopped by our table to play our wine game for adults and bran tub for children. You helped raise £96!! 🥰
Here are a few photos from the evening.
