Many congratulations to QEGS pupil Samuel Bradley who was presented with an Award for Service to the Community at a school ceremony last week, in recognition of his support for Careline. Sam has been helping to raise awareness and fundraise for the charity for the last 4 years. It’s really lovely to see younger members of our community wanting to help to make other people’s quality of life better – well done and thank you Sam!

We’re absolutely thrilled to have been chosen as Ashbourne Sainsbury’s Local Charity of the Year 2017/18 – this means a great deal to us! Thank you so much to the staff for nominating us and to everyone who voted for us. We were one of three great local charities in the running, so we’re extremely lucky to have been chosen. We’re really looking forward to working with Sainsbury’s over the next year.

Last week we held a very special event – our 20th Anniversary Strawberry Tea Party! This was an opportunity for over 100 of our volunteers, members and supporters to meet up over afternoon tea, fizz and of course a slice of birthday cake! Everyone agreed what a lovely celebration it was – so thank you to those who helped to make the day such a success, especially our hard working volunteers and trustees.

Join Careline plus many other local community groups including Holly Rd Supportive Care Centre, SSAFA, Uttoxeter Knights, Age UK , Autism Pyramid Group and Scropton Riding School on Sat 1st July from 10am at Uttoxeter Town Hall for the Uttoxeter Together Day – a family fun day which aims to bring townsfolk together. There will be games, stalls and a children’s Fancy Dress Competition at 1pm, with some exciting prizes and which will be judged by Andrew Griffiths MP. Tesco’s Community Team will be on hand to feed your family lunch for just £4 and the Uttoxeter Friendship Group will be providing delicious homemade cakes! There will be something for everyone and if you have ever considered volunteering for a local cause, you’ll have the opportunity to find out just what’s available, whatever your age or whether you have just a few hours to spare each month or more….

We’re thrilled and ever so grateful to the staff of Sainsbury’s Ashbourne who have chosen Careline as their potential charity of the year. But we now need you all to vote for us please! Follow this link:

and when prompted type in ‘Ashbourne’, click on the store name and then select ‘Careline’. Or if you’re in the store, you can vote for us near the entrance. It’s very quick and easy but would make a huge difference to us, as we continue to seek longer term funding. Many thanks in advance!

Careline Befriending Co-ordinators Job Description – new June 17
If you have any queries about this role contact the Careline Manager, Jane Fulham on tel: 01335 210353

It’s a sad day in the Careline office, as we say goodbye to our Assistant Manager Mary Beale who starts her well-earned retirement today.
Mary began her involvement with Careline as a volunteer before becoming the Assistant Manager of the charity in 2008. Since then she has worked tirelessly for the organisation, whether that be the day-to-day activities, fundraising events, strawberry teas, volunteer training and mentoring, support for members or single-handedly managing the move of the charity to its new base at St Oswald’s Hospital! Mary has played a pivotal role in the success of Careline and helped to shape the values which it embodies today.
We know you’ll join us in thanking her for all the hard work and dedication that she has shown to Careline over the last ten years and in wishing her a very happy retirement! She will be greatly missed but we hope that she’ll keep in touch with us all.
Thank you to everyone from Careline, Betty’s Sewing Box and Ashbourne Singers who bought a raffle ticket to win the stunning throw made by our very talented volunteer Jocelyn Dacie. Congratulations to Sharon Amy from Ashbourne Singers whose winning ticket was drawn last Friday by Careline volunteer Coral Hodges. We’re really grateful to Jocelyn for donating the throw, which we know took many hours to make. You have have all helped us to raise a fantastic £100!

Many thanks to the fantastic Shrovetide Dance Committee for their generous donation – it means a great deal to us to be supported by such an iconic Ashbourne organisation.

We so grateful that having already made a donation after last summer’s Duck Race, they chose us again as one of three very worthy recipients to benefit from the proceeds of their annual dance. It really is much appreciated.
